The Secret to Why You Might Feel Tired

One of the most common complaints people share with physicians and therapists is that they feel tired and run down. It’s frustrating when you feel too tired to take part in enjoyable activities and fatigue is making you less productive than you would like. Are you starting to fear there’s no way to fix the problem? Maybe you feel sad, angry, or guilty and ashamed because you can’t do more. All those challenging emotions and thoughts can make you feel stressed, which in turn may exacerbate your sense of tiredness. Like many people, you might be very eager for an answer to the question, “Why am I so tired and what can I do about it?” If so, your conscious and your unconscious mind can help you.

Your sources for reinvigorating yourself may be of poor quality. Food fuels your body, and you might eat plenty of calories, but they may not be the right kinds of calories to support health and stamina. If you find conversation to be energizing, time spent socializing with good friends can help you feel less tired. But are you engaging in conversations with people who frustrate and upset you, making you feel drained and stressed? Simple changes in where you get your energy could make a big difference in your energy level.

If you always seem to be tired and do not know why it makes sense to see a physician. But even if your tiredness seems purely physical, it may have psychological causes. Deep down, in your unconscious, you may have some insights about your fatigue that are hidden from your conscious mind. Why not let your own unconscious mind help you better understand what is robbing you of your vitality?

You might think, “I know why I am so tired, but I can’t do anything more about it!” pause for a moment. There might be a secret to why you’re tired that you are overlooking. Your unconscious mind might be able to help you find it.

Consider doing this simple exercise that cues your unconscious to bring into your conscious mind valuable insights about the roots of your lack of energy. To start, lie on the floor or better yet, lie on the earth in a natural area, connecting with the earth’s energy that can affect your own energy field. When you are settled on the floor or the ground, breathe mindfully, focusing on the sensation and rhythm of your breath. As you draw your attention to your breathing, begin to observe the feeling of your body against the grass or sand below your body. You will feel your energy shift if you keep drawing your attention back to your breathing again every time your mind begins to wander. When you are relaxed and you feel an energetic shift has happened, silently pose the question, “What do I need to know about why I am so tired?”

Wait for the answer to appear in your mind as an image, a knowing, or a thought. A word or words may come to you. You might even hear lyrics from a song. Simply observe what you are experiencing as your unconscious mind offers you insights. When you are ready, you can sit up or get up and let your mind suggest how to interpret the answer you received. One woman tried this and saw a pile of white pouring through a doorway, almost as if a snowdrift had come into a room when someone opened the door. She came to realize she had let too much sugar slip into her diet and needed to close the door on it, so to speak.

While lying down on the earth and relaxing, you might fall asleep. If so, your body is probably telling you “I need more sleep!” Listen to that message and act on it. Then, try the exercise again when you are more rested. Your wise inner healer might have invaluable insights for you that will clue you into what you can do to improve your health, well-being, and stamina. This inner healer is the wise aspect of a person’s awareness and it exists in everyone. Yours has a powerful ability to help you heal whatever physical problems are troubling you.

So quiet your mind and activity to access your inner healer and learn what it can tell you about achieving the vitality and energy you seek. You may discover that you need to spend less time in certain activities that drain you emotionally and mentally. You may learn that you need to bring more fun into your life with activities that make you feel playful and energies. Then, commit to making the changes you know you need to make.

Whether your tiredness is rooted in diet or lack of exercise, emotions you need to feel and release, beliefs that are making you feel weary and pessimistic, or any combination of these causes, you can address these issues starting with small steps. Knowing what you need to do that you have not been doing could make you feel uncomfortable because making changes can be hard. But once you become conscious of important insights about your tiredness, you can come to recognize that you really do have to break old habits that are no longer serving you and create better ones that energize you.

It only takes a few minutes to stop, relax, reduce the restless activity of your conscious mind, and ask your inner healer “Why am I so tired?” The answer that comes up from your unconscious may put you back on the road to wellness and vitality.
